As the only artist-founded museum in Los Angeles, it's dedicated to preserving the art of today, but also to expanding the ever-evolving definitions of art. In short, much of what you’ll see here is unlike what’s found in any other museum in town. If you want to spend a day thinking about the future of art and creative expression, here’s where to do it. Tickets for those who live outside of Los Angeles County range from $21 to $25, but residents of Los Angeles County can visit for free after 3pm on weekdays. All visitors must purchase a timed-entry ticket in advance. Whether it’s your first time to the city or a return visit, here are the best museums in Los Angeles to discover.

Going to the Getty is a whole experience

Furthermore, Mankato is another town that features in ‘Little House on the Prairie.’ Charles would go to Mankato to make deliveries frequently. Scenes set in Mankato were filmed at Old Tucson Studios on 201 Kinney Road in Tucson, Arizona. Other than that, according to IMDb, the show also utilized several production facilities when soundstages were required for filming. For instance, filming was carried out on Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank (on Laramie Street, to be more specific), Paramount Studios on 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood and Universal Studios in Universal City. Moving on, one might be wondering where Walnut Grove is actually situated. The farm is what the Ingalls family calls home and over time, has become entrenched in viewers’ memory.

And the veil is the honeycomb-like structure surrounding the building, allowing natural daylight to stream in through the galleries. With flashy steel ribbons wrapped around a cherry-red exterior, the museum is hard to miss from Wilshire and Fairfax. Inside, you’ll find classic and rare cars from the past century, including those made famous in movies such as Back to the Future, Batman and the James Bond series, as well as futuristic, extreme and electric vehicles from this century. There’s also a Forza Motorsport racing experience and an interactive storytelling exhibit for children, featuring characters from the  Disney/Pixar movie Cars. Lately, I’ve had some time for extra reading, so I decided to read a couple of books related to Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Road trip along the Oregon Trail: A journey through history

Well, ‘Little House on the Prairie’ has not been filmed in Minnesota like its setting. Instead, it has mostly been filmed in Simi Valley, California. The city of Simi Valley, nestled in the eponymous valley boasts of one of the nation’s lowest crime rates.

Four gardens surround the villa, and there’s also a 450-seat classical-style outdoor theater, where art-related performances are often held. The museum and its 7000 pieces of artwork are split between two buildings, MOCA Geffen, in Little Tokyo, and MOCA Grand. While both buildings feature contemporary art, the main building on Grand Ave tends to display more traditional forms of art like paintings and photography, whereas MOCA Geffen has space for more cutting-edge works of art, such as large murals and projections. Los Angeles loves cars just as much as movies, and the Petersen Automotive Museum does a thrilling job of detailing the history of the automobile, from its earliest incarnations to prototypes for the future. LACMA’s 20-acre campus has been undergoing construction for a few years, so be sure to check what’s open before you go. The good thing is that the museum is across the street from the Petersen Automotive Museum and adjacent to the famous La Brea Tar Pits, so it’s easy to make a day out of your visit here.

Season 3 Episode 18 “The Wisdom of Solomon”

The festival features various events and activities, such as historical reenactments, live music, pioneer crafts, and demonstrations of traditional skills like blacksmithing, quilting, and soap-making. This annual event draws fans from across the country, who come together to celebrate the Ingalls family’s inspiring story of perseverance and courage. ‘Little House on the Prairie’ is a 1974 Western drama that has cemented its place as a classic.

Despite the IMAX 3D movies and the exhibits' fun attractions, the star of the science center is the massive Endeavour space shuttle, housed in the Samuel Oschin Pavilion. This was the final shuttle built for NASA’s Space Shuttle program, and its journey from Cape Canaveral, Florida, to Los Angeles was a mission of enormous undertaking, detailed in an accompanying exhibit to the shuttle’s display. General admission to the museum is free but does require a timed ticket. For even more vehicular action, the basement-level Vault by Hagerty features 250-plus rare and iconic cars, motorcycles and trucks from six regions of the world. Entry requires a separate ticket, and children under 10 are not allowed. The museum also offers the Oscars Experience, where, for an additional $15, you can be filmed “accepting” an Oscar statue.

You’ll receive a download of the 15-second clip within minutes, but in the age of masks, the experience doesn’t seem quite worth it. In the first building, the anchoring attraction is Stories of Cinema, a three-floor exhibition showcasing the diverse oeuvres of moviemakers from around the world, from some of the very first movies to today’s technological marvels. Here’s where you’ll find Judy Garland’s famous red slippers from The Wizard of Oz, props from Citizen Kane, make-up and prosthetics from Bombshell, costumes from a range of iconic movies, stars' Oscar-night outfits and even the Oscar statues themselves. Be it frugality or admiration, Landon shamelessly repurposed some of his favorite Bonanza storylines into Little House plots.

Independence, Kansas Visitor Information Home of Laura Ingalls Wilder

I’ve been a Laura fan since I was a girl, so I like to throw in some reading about her life every now and again. As I read, I was reminded of a little day trip we took one summer day to visit the Little House on the Prairie Museum near Independence, Kansas. Singing Creek Educational Center in Junction City, Oregon – Go back in time as a pioneer and have an experience you will never forget. Located on a working farm, Singing Creek Educational Center’s mission is to inspire children and families toward an appreciation of local history through hands-on interactive learning.

Set on the original homestead location of the Ingalls family, this historic site allows visitors to step back in time and experience the world that Laura Ingalls Wilder so vividly described in her novels. Wheels Across the Prairie Museum in Tracy, Minnesota – Explore the museum’s exhibits, which include historic buildings and collections of farm equipment and train equipment from America’s past. In By the Shores of Silver Lake, Laura Ingalls Wilder describes her first train ride from Walnut Grove to Tracy in the 1880s and later mentions Tracy as a rail center in her book The Long Winter. Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Walnut Grove, Minnesota – Learn about the history of the Ingalls family in the Walnut Grove area by visiting the museum’s collections. They are housed in a series of impressive structures such as an 1898 depot, a chapel, a dugout, and covered wagon display, and an early settler home. Find out more by visiting the museum on Twitter and Facebook page.

By the Shores of Silver Lake was published in 1939 and is fifth in the series. When Kate accompanies him on a visit to deliver a baby to a woman whose own birth he had handled, their age difference is magnified for both of them. For both museums, general-admission tickets are free but do require a timed entry. The entrance to the Getty Center begins at the bottom of the Santa Monica mountains, past the frenetic 405 freeway in Brentwood, where you’ll hop on a three-car funicular and ride about 900 ft to the start of the museum’s sprawling 600-acre campus. And for architectural buffs, the museum’s original rotunda – surrounded by marble columns and topped with a stained-glass dome – still stands as one of the most striking gems in the city.

As I read, I was reminded of our visit to the Little House on the Prairie Museum near Independence, Kansas. We’ve been lucky to visit three of the sites that she called home, and we’re especially lucky enough to be a day trip away from two of them. If you’d like to read about her home as an adult in Mansfield, Missouri, click here. Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Homes in De Smet, South Dakota – The Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society was founded shortly after Laura Ingalls Wilder’s death in 1957. Tour several historic homes, including the Surveyors’ House from the book By the Shores of Silver Lake and the final home of Ma, Pa, and Mary Ingalls.
